What has got to be one of the best activities the whole family can do whilst on holiday is to take one of the daily Dolphin safari’s from the marina in Lagos. You can find out more information at www.dolphin-watching-algarve.com and www.algarve-dolphins.com , We have been on these trips and they are fantastic and great value. You set off from the Marina in Lagos and head out to open waters where the experienced crew know the Dolphins can usually be found. Adults and children alike are mesmerized by the playful nature of the dolphins as they race the boat and perform right alongside you. These companies have an almost 95% success rate in finding the dolphins, but in the rare event that they are unsuccessful they offer a free return trip.
After watching the dolphins at play the crew then set off back to port, and here’s where the fun really begins…………….hold onto your hats, cameras and anything you can as the boat reaches tremendous pace, but the strange thing is nobody has any sickness or problems as these craft offer a “flat ride” and seem to skim across the surface. The trip time is approx one and a half hours and is one not to be missed.
Another favourite of ours has to be the Slide & Splash park at Lagoa, which takes less than half an hour to reach. www.slidesplash.com is the web site and we have spent many an enjoyable day there. The water park here is full of lots of great rides and there is plenty of grass and open space for you to sunbathe or picnic in between taking the rides. What is particularly good is that if one or more of the family do not wish to go, then less than 5 minutes by car are the golf courses Pinta and Gramaco. These are two extremely good golf courses with Pinta being my personal favourite.
For those who prefer a more sedate form of transport then within a few minutes of our villa you can experience horse riding. There is no need to be an expert as they can accept beginners (including children) as well as the more experienced rider. The length of ride can vary between 20 minutes and 5 hours, and more information can be accessed at www.valegrifo.com/tiffanysriding
Zoo Marine is located in Albufeira which is approx 30/40 minutes away. www.zoomarine.com here you will experience dolphin and sea lion shows (and you can experience swimming with dolphins) as well as lots of other great shows and events. The young children in particular will love this day out.
Lagos also has its own zoo and at www.zoolagos you will find lots of information about the zoo. Again with Lagos being on approx 10 minutes drive away this combined with a visit to Lagos always proves popular.
For the more adventurous of you, then there are numerous beaches from which to enjoy windsurfing, body boarding and lots of other water sports. In our villa visitors book (which is packed full of lots of information) you can find our son’s favourite places from which to enjoy these activities. Burgau is popular with several surf schools and lessons can be booked.
Between Burgau and the west coast at Sagres there are lots of really spectacular beaches from which to enjoy these wind and water sports. An added bonus is that whilst those that participate in these sports have fun then the others can either soak up the sun or watch the world go by whilst enjoying a leisurely beverage in some delightful beach bars. One of our favourite's being the Blue Wave beach bar, which is right on the beach and offers superb views as well as only being about 5 minutes in the car.
